Music star Eminem is grieving the loss of his mum Debbie Nelson who has passed away after a lung cancer diagnosis

Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson has died at 69 years old after a battle with advanced lung cancer. She passed away last night in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Debbie’s advanced lung cancer diagnosis was made public in September. Despite providing financial support to his mother, the 51 year old rapper has not been in contact with her or other family members in Missouri for several years.

Their tumultuous relationship frequently featured in Eminem’s music, with songs like Cleaning Out My Closet accusing his mother of abuse and neglect.

In 2005, Debbie received $25,000 after successfully suing the rapper for defamation over lyrics suggesting she was a drug user. In 2008, she published a revealing memoir titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.

Eminem, 52, and Nelson had a rocky relationship throughout her life, but she celebrated her son from afar in recent years. When he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, she congratulated him online.

“Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said in a video that has since been deleted.

“I love you very much. I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride,” added Nelson at the time. “I’m very, very proud of you.”

Eminem’s estranged father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr., died in 2019 at 67.
