TRIBUTE

Goodnight…Uncle Yemi Adewetan

It’s been a terribly tough week for me.

I was tending to my son’s health when the sad news came.

I am deeply shattered learning that you are no more.

On Monday, I remembered promising to visit you in Ondo town this week. Wednesday that I wanted to call and apologise was the same day I learnt of your demise.

I will never forget the roles you played in my life. As the then Publisher of Nigerian Economist, you gave me the opportunity to earn bylines and stipends as a journalism student.

As a community leader and one of the drivers of Ondo Kingdom’s foremost cultural celebration known as Ekimogun Day, you made me the ‘unofficial’ editor of Ekimogun News magazine.

Through that you connected me to personalities like the late Oba Adesanoye, who nearly made me a chief (I turned it down); former Governor Segun Mimiko; the late Lisa of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Bayo Akinnola; the late Ondo State Governor Segun Agagu; late PR guru n Minister Alex Akinyemi; the current Osemawe of Ondo as well Juju music icon, King Sunny Ade.

Chief Adewetan,a veteran journalist, was also an executive director, of EKI 100.9FM.

Adieu Uncle Yemi
