Non Governmental, non partisan, non religious and non sectarian with branches in over 80 countries around the world,Global Peace Movement International last month condemned the abduction of female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara Local Government area of Zamfara state.
Dr. Mike Uyi, President General of the group expressed deep concern about the increasing frequency of attacks against educational institutions in Nigeria. Describing the situation, Dr. Uyi said “Not only do we detest these barbaric and inhuman acts, but we also state that they are oppressive,” he said. According to him, the abduction of these innocent female students is inhuman, callous, uncivilised, and anti-educational, capable of dragging the country backwards educationally.
Uyi noted that abduction violates the girls’ human rights saying the act is a crime against humanity, prohibited under the international humanitarian law. “We call on the perpetrators and all Nigerians to ensure that these innocent students are urgently set free in the interest of the future of the nation. “GPMI expresses its deepest solidarity to the community affected by this horrific acts, and stands with the families of the abducted children in these difficult times. We calls for greater efforts to protect all children throughout Nigeria.”
