Oba Adenle was crowned on April 4, 1944, and ruled until his passing in 1976.

Born in January 1903, he attended St. Andrew’s College, Oyo, Nigeria’s premier tertiary institution, graduating in 1923. Before becoming a traditional ruler, his teaching career took him to Ipetu-Ijesa, Ifaki in present-day Ekiti State, and later to Benin City, where his duties included serving as a “Travelling Teacher” reaching as far as Onitsha. In the 1920s and 1930s, he was a provincial schoolmaster and trader in Osogbo, Western Nigeria. Oba Adenle was also reputed to be an inventor who designed and built a mechanical loom using a bicycle wheel.
