Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Dies at 82

President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has died at 82. The Iwuanyanwu family announced his death in a statement on Thursday, revealing that he died on Thursday, July 25 2024, after a brief illness.

Chief Iwuanyanwu’s passing marks the end of a notable public service and leadership career. He served as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an influential socio-cultural organisation representing the Igbo people. The Ọhanaeze Ndigbo, which brings together all the Igbo people to foster unity and progress for the Igbo culture worldwide, was under his leadership. He was also the President of the Owerri Peoples Assembly. His roles in these capacities marked his commitment to the unity and progress of the Igbo community.

He was a Nigerian politician and businessman, considered one of the richest Igbo men in the country.  On April 20, 2023, he emerged as the 11th President-General of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation.

Iwuanyanwu succeeded George Obiozor, who led the Ọhanaeze Ndigbo for two years but died on December 29, 2022.
Iwuanyanwu’s MFR, KSC, with a net worth spanning billions, serves as Chairman of Sunrise Breweries Limited, Sunrise Insurance Brokers Limited, Benhol Farms Limited and Oriental Shipping Lines Limited. Mr. Iwuanyanwu has numerous business interests spanning various industries in Nigeria, including construction, insurance, agriculture, sports, newspapers, airlines, and shipping. He was the Proprietor of Iwuanyanwu National Football Club. He served as a Director at Secure Electronic Technology Plc. He is a member of numerous prestigious institutions. He has been awarded prestigious honours, including the National Honour of the Distinguished Order of Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is also a well-known philanthropist and contributor. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Nsukka in 1971. He has numerous Doctorate degrees from various universities across Nigeria.
