A Nigerian restaurant in North London has launched a six-week battle to stay open. Chuku’s in Tottenham are asking diners to book tables to prevent them from having to close for good.
Chuku’s is a Nigerian tapas bar run by brother and sister duo Ifeyinwa and Emeka
Frederik on the High Road in Tottenham. The North London spot opened with rave
reviews in 2020 but now faces a difficult time as lockdowns and challenges over the past
two years have left them at risk of closure.
In a bid to save their restaurant, Chuku’s has launched the Six Week Charge challenge.
They are pleading for diners to book a table over the next six weeks to show support
for the beloved spot, admitting on Twitter: “Your fave foodie spot, our Nigerian
tapas restaurant -is at risk of closure. Yes, despite our excellent press & rave
reviews, we have been struggling.”

In a video by the restaurant, Ifeyinwa and Emeka said: “We need your help. We opened our restaurant three years ago, just five weeks before the pandemic. Since then, we’ve been named one of the best restaurants in London, we’ve had rave reviews from you about our dishes like our plantain waffles and we’ve welcomed thousands of guests from London to Leicester and Lagos to New York.
“But we must admit, we’re struggling to keep our doors open. We’re proud to share our Nigerian culture with so many of you and want to keep celebrating our culture, right here on Tottenham’s High Road. That’s why we’re launching Chuku’s Six Week Charge. From the 31st of October to the 11th of December, we’re asking you to do one thing. Book a table. Our goal is 600 bookings over the next six weeks.
“That’s 100 bookings per week. So we can continue to give you great food and great vibes all the way into 2023. So book a table and join the Chuku’s Six Week Charge.” The restaurant wrote that their battle was due to “the series of lockdowns, the subsequent staff shortages & a host of other challenges facing restaurants right now”.
Diners can book a table to support Chuku’s Six Week Charge online here. The restaurant is rated a whopping 4.7 stars on Google with diners calling it “gorgeous”, the “best food” and “delicious. Highlights on Chuku’s menu include the Plantain Waffle (£9), Suya Meatballs (£10.25), and Caramel Kuli Kuli Chicken (£9.25). You can find Chuku’s at 274 High Rd, London N15 4AJ
