Davido Donates N300 Million To Orphanages in Nigeria After Grammy Award Lose

David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is set to donate N300 million through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation (DAF), to orphanages nationwide.

He said this is part of his annual contribution to the nation. The Afrobeats star, in a post on his X handle, said his foundation will disclose details of the fund’s disbursement.

“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation ❤️ .. details of disbursement tomorrow,” he wrote.

Recall that last year, the ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker extended the same gesture by donating the sum of N237m to some orphanages across the country.

The singer said that the sum was disbursed to 424 orphanages in Nigeria.

“I am proud to announce that my foundation. The David Adeleke Foundation (DAF) has donated the sum of N237,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Thirty-Seven Million Naira) to orphanages throughout Nigeria.

“The distribution of donation funds was led by the chair of the DAF Disbursement Committee, Mrs. Titi Adebayo. With the foundation successfully distributing funds to 424 (Four Hundred and Twenty-Four) orphanages, benefiting a total of 13,818 (Thirteen Thousand. Eight Hundred and Eighteen) children,” he said.

In 2021, via his Instagram page, Davido challenged his friends and fans to support his 29th Birthday on November 21 by donating N1 million each to him. He explained that he had always been in a position of lifting others and wanted them to return the favour.

Within 10 minutes of announcing the challenge on his Insta stories, he received N7 million; however, he said the goal was N100 million. Some days later, he revealed that N200 million was realised from the donation.

He then donated N50,000,000 to make N250 million, saying the money would all go as donations to orphanages across Nigeria.

The “David Adeleke Foundation was created in 2022 with a strong desire and passion to continually assist others and make a proper framework for ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.

“Through this foundation, we have raised millions of Naira and disbursed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving the lives of countless children,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Afrobeats singer lost his first Grammy after losing out on all three nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Davido was nominated in three categories: Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Music Album and Best African Music Performance, but lost all three.

Before the Grammy ceremony, Davido had expressed optimism about winning his first Grammy. In an interview, he told Billboard’s Tetris Kelly that he would go into a wild celebration if he clinches the Best African Music Performance category award.

He added that an African music category at the premier global music award was long overdue.

“I feel good being a nominee for the first time and getting three nominations. But the Best African Music Performance category feels long overdue for African music to be celebrated. I’m talking about generations before mine, Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade. I believe Sunny Ade has been nominated, but now there is an African category.

If there had been an African category years ago, many people would have had the opportunity to be recognised by the Grammy. Finally, at least it is happening now,” Davido said.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Tyla went home with her first Grammy Award as she won the Best Global Music Performance category at the Grammys. Also, none of the four other Nigerian artists nominated — Burna Boy, Olamide, Ayra Starr and Asake — nicked an award during the ceremony.
