Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the elected representative of Anambra South Senatorial District and a well-known oil magnate and politician, has been reported dead. Ubah passed away in London.

Ubah, who had recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), was preparing to seek the party’s ticket for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

Ubah died in a hotel in London, the United Kingdom. He had left for London two days ago. The Senate, through its Spokesman, Yemi Adaramodu, has confirmed the death of the federal lawmaker.

The statement describes Senator Uba as an exemplary leader, a committed public servant, and a tireless advocate for his constituents, a testament to his unwavering dedication to the people he served.

Mr Ubah suffered slumps after suffering what family sources described to Peoples Gazette as cardiac arrest. He was 52.

The news of Mr Ubah’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through his family and the nation. His wife, among other family members, has begun mourning after receiving the tragic information that their stalwart died in a hotel in the United Kingdom’s capital. Mr Ubah was the CEO of downstream oil marketer Capital Oil for years.

In 2014, Mr Ubah ran for governor of Anambra under the Labour Party but lost. He then joined the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and won a Senate seat in 2019 and 2023, a testament to his resilience and commitment to public service.

Later, in 2023, Mr Ubah defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He explained then that his joining the APC was to ensure the South-East aligns with the government at the centre. He served as a member of the Nigerian Senate until his death.
