Anthony Joshua once again finds himself having to rebuild after a defeat. This latest defeat to Daniel Dubois is the fourth time ‘AJ’ has lost in the ring, but it might be the most difficult to come back from.
His first came in July 2019 against late stand-in in Andy Ruiz Jr. He was caught early and never really recovered before being stopped but won the rematch a few months later with a wide points victory.
In 2021 and 2022 came two back-to-back points defeats to elite Oleksandr Usyk, though Joshua was never put down in any of the 24 rounds.
Earlier this month, he was knocked down multiple times, including heavily in the first round, before eventually being stopped by 27-year-old Dubois in the fifth.
Speaking to FightHype, former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman gave his review of the fight.
“I thought it was a 50-50 fight going in. I thought Dubious, the way he fights, he goes in with reckless abandonment, he goes in with reckless intentions trying to knock you out. Joshua he fought passive, that’s why he got caught with the shot. I personally think that Anthony Joshua needs a different trainer.”
He then revealed that man is his old foe and former undisputed champ Lennox Lewis, who has had public back and forths with ‘AJ’ in the past. The Lion’ knows all about avenging defeats in rematches. He suffered two shock losses – one to Oliver McCall and the other to Rahman himself – but managed to beat both men when facing them again.
Lewis and Joshua would indeed be a formidable team but right now ‘AJ’ seems settled with current trainer Ben Davison and has vowed to fight on.
