On the broadcast post-fight, Foreman said ‘there’s no doubt’ that Lewis was the best heavyweight of all time. “There’s nobody in the world that can take that from Lennox Lewis now. There’s no doubt that he’s the best heavyweight of all time. What he’s done clearly puts him on top of the heap.”
The pair dominated different eras, with Foreman first becoming a household name in the seventies.
Lewis kicked off his professional campaign in 1889, two years after Foreman’s spectacular comeback following a decade-long hiatus. In 1994 when ‘Big’ George beat Michael Moorer to become the oldest heavyweight world champion ever, ‘The Lion’ – who had went 25 fights undefeated – lost in a shock upset to Oliver McCall.

He would later avenge the loss to regain his WBC belt before becoming undisputed champion against Evander Holyfield. Lewis’ only other defeat against came against Hasim Rahman four fights later. Again, he reversed the result in a rematch. It was after that win that Foreman welcomed the Brit into the conversation of the best ever.
“There was a time when we used to talk about Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali. and very seldom another name would come in there. Now you can put Lennox Lewis in that mix. He’s in there with the all-time heavyweight champions of the world. Recovered the title, did it in a devastating manner. He’s beating everybody, even Evander Holyfield. He became a three-time world champion and he beat a three-time champion along the way.”

After beating Rahman, Lewis stepped through the ropes with Mike Tyson. Despite the Brooklyn native being dangerous, Lewis nullified his attributes on his way to a eighth round stoppage win. On the broadcast post-fight, Foreman said ‘there’s no doubt’ that Lewis was the best heavyweight of all time.
