‘People thought I was going to die’: Da L.E.S opens up about life-changing stroke

For the first time since suffering a stroke in 2024, South African rapper Da L.E.S, real name Leslie Mampe, has opened up about the life-altering experience and his recovery journey.

In a heartfelt video shared on YouTube, the former Jozi member revealed just how serious the situation was, explaining that many feared for his life.

“I suffered a stroke. People thought I was going to die. I made it,” he said, adding that his motivation for sharing such a personal chapter was to inspire and educate others.

“I made this video to motivate people. I want to help people because it is real. One minute you’re cool and the next you’re experiencing the worst.”

Da L.E.S revealed that the stroke occurred on his birthday, a moment that deeply shook him and those closest to him.

“When something like this happens, it is something you can’t control,” he said, expressing profound gratitude for still being alive.

The video takes viewers on an emotional journey. From the day he suffered the stroke, being transported to hospital by ambulance, to the moment he was discharged. It also shows the rapper undergoing therapy, giving fans a raw and intimate look at his healing process.
