During the production of Star Wars, John Boyega recounts when he and co-star Harrison Ford ditched security to sample Nigerian cuisine, taking a drive along one of South London’s most famous roads.

John Boyega shared a story of taking Harrison Ford to a South London restaurant and how he ‘finished every single plate,’ and fell asleep on the way home in the car. In an interview on the Mythical Kitchen YouTube channel, John Boyega said he took Harrison Ford to 805 on Old Kent Road in South London after shooting Star Wars Force Awakens.

John said: “I guess the man was tired of filming and being on a diet. He said ‘Hey kid, I want to eat something that’s gonna be a little bit different…that would be a great great time.” Standing up to the challenge, John said he took Harrison to a local Nigerian spot in South London called 805.

805 is a contemporary Nigerian restaurant in South London serving Nigerian and West African dishes. The restaurant has a 3.5-star rating on TripAdvisor, with reviews jumping between customers who loved the food and those left disappointed. It seems Harrison Ford would be one of the delighted customers if he left a review.

Wanting to take it lightly, John thought Harrison would stick to the more well-known dishes like Jollof Rice, Plantain, and Pounded Yam, he said: “This is what you would offer Caucasian brothers and sisters, this is how we would introduce you into the flavour.”

He added: “But Harrison went past that and went for real native meals the guy had Amala, Ewudu, pounded yam, and Egusi he ate the food my forefathers ate. He had a really good amazing time with it. He finished every single plate.”

John joked that on the way home after finishing all the food, Harrison, “slept like a Nigerian after he has eaten,” in the car. He also joked that Harrison should check his Ancestry DNA because saying he told Harrison: “You got to do your ancestry DNA, you got some Black in you boy.”
