The long-running rivalry between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj has flared up once again, this time over the success of Cardi’s latest album Am I the Drama?
On Monday, September 29, Cardi celebrated a major career milestone after the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album double platinum, just 10 days after its release. The project also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 200,000 units in its first week and generating 146 million streams.
But the celebration was short-lived. Minaj appeared to question the legitimacy of Cardi’s sales figures, prompting a fiery response on X (formerly Twitter). Cardi accused her rival of deflecting and challenged Minaj to measure herself against artists of her own era.
“Why you keep bringing up my album? It’s not the gag you think it is. You’ve been in the game for 16 years — you should be comparing yourself to Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake… those are your peers. But you can’t, because you’re doing lower than all of them,” Cardi wrote in a pointed post.
Cardi escalated further with a cutting remark, referring to Minaj as “cocaine Barbie” — a jab that reignited tensions between the two women, who have been trading barbs both online and offline for years.
The feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj has long fascinated fans and divided the hip-hop community. Both artists are celebrated as trailblazing female rappers and mothers, yet their inability to share the spotlight continues to overshadow their achievements.
