Nigerian Music Icon 2Face Announces Separation, Divorce From Wife, Annie Macaulay-Idibia

Music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has revealed that he and his wife, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, a Nollywood actress have been separated for a while now and his currently filing for divorce.

The music legend made this known in a statement addressed to his fans and well-wishers on Instagram.

“Hello to my beautiful people of all Federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and currently filed divorce. I would grant a press release soon to say my story—not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life; but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offense. Stay blessed my people. I love you all,” 2Face wrote.

Many described the announcement as  shocking while others believe the separation is long overdue as the marriage has endured many trials over the years. 

The couple celebrated their wedding anniversary just a few days ago and Annie had publicly dismissed rumours of a breakup, sharing emotional tributes on social media and posting photos from their intimate celebration. 

2Face’s announcement left fans and supporters confused and wondering. 

However, this revelation now puts into perspective the ongoing speculations and whispers about cracks in their marriage especially with Annie’s appearance in a reality TV show, Rich, Famous and African.

2Face and Annie’s relationship has faced its share of turbulence, some of which have played out in the public eye. From infidelity rumours to family disputes, the couple’s love story has been anything but peaceful.

One of the most notable controversies occurred in 2021 when a call recording of Annie made it to the public where she accused 2Face of spending nights with one of his baby mamas, sparking an intense social media drama.

Annie had claimed she was tired of being humiliated and disrespected in their marriage, which led to an outpouring of support and criticism from fans alike.

Addressing the issue then, 2Face made a cryptic post urging people to respect his family’s privacy.

Despite the challenge, the couple appeared to reconcile, sharing loving photos and reaffirming their commitment to one another in subsequent public appearances.

Another significant source of tension has been the strained relationship between Annie and 2Face’s family members. His younger brother, Charles Idibia, once called Annie out on social media, accusing her of being controlling and manipulative.

Charles claimed that Annie’s behaviour was a constant source of discord in the family, further fuelling rumours of internal strife.

Annie, however, defended herself, insisting that she had always been supportive of 2Face and his extended family.

She maintained that her love for her husband was genuine, despite the challenges they faced. Still, the public drama only added more strain to their already fragile relationship.

The couple’s journey began as a love story when Annie was 15 years, a teenager and 2Face was 24. They tied the knot in a star-studded wedding in 2013, after years of dating and weathering storms together.

Annie stood by 2Face during his rise to fame and throughout his earlier controversies, becoming a symbol of loyalty and resilience.

Their union, however, was not without challenges. 2Face’s history as a father to multiple children from different women has often cast a shadow over their marriage.

While Annie has embraced his children as her own, it has not been an easy road, as blended family dynamics often led to misunderstandings.

The announcement of their divorce marks a turning point in their decade-long relationship.

While 2Face has promised to share his side of the story, fans are left to wonder what led to this final decision, especially after the couple seemed to have overcome several hurdles in the past.

For Annie, this is undoubtedly a difficult period, as she has often been vocal about her love and devotion to 2Face.

In several interviews, she has described him as her soulmate and expressed her commitment to making their marriage work, despite the odds. 

Celebrities and fans alike have reacted to 2Face’s announcement with many calling him shameless for bringing his family problems out to the public especially at a time when his wife, Annie is being criticised. 

Nollywood actress, Mary Remmy Njoku took to Instagram to criticise 2Face for announcing the separation at a time when his wife was already facing public criticism. She said he humiliated Annie at her lowest moment.

“Bro, Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices. But since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you!,” she posted.

On the other hand, Toke Makinwa wrote, “This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she’s alone, let me tell you now that you’ll have to fight all of us.”

A Nigerian businesswoman, Ifedayo Agoro also reacted, saying 2Face shouldn’t have announced the divorce publicly.

She wrote, “First, they groom you, then you lose yourself, and then they dump you. I am so angry! I usually don’t talk about things like this, but this is disgusting behaviour by this man.

“In a time when this woman is already being insulted, you had to say this? Knowing you’ve been embarrassing her publicly for years? Why now? Why make things worse for her?

“Never ever choose a man over yourself. No one is INDISPENSABLE! Gosh!”

Annie is yet to respond to the new development as of press time.
