Uche Okirie, a United Kingdom (UK)-based Nigerian student,was fatally stabbed to death on Saturday morning, November 22, by his Congolese neighbor, Benjamin Katheba in Norfolk.


Okirie, a student at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, was stabbed in the chest around 5:22 a.m. at Somerlayton House, off Unthank road.

Neighbors discovered his body after hearing screams and commotion, prompting a police response.

The Norfolk police have cordoned off the building while forensic teams collect blood, DNA, and other evidence.

Katheba, 27 years old, has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Katheba was remanded in custody following an appearance at Norwich magistrates’ court.

An autopsy by the home office confirmed that Okirie died from a stab wound to the chest.

Okirie, in his 30s, was an alumnus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where he earned a second class upper degree in Economics between 2011 and 2015.

He worked as head office auditor at UBA group before moving to the UK in September 2021 to pursue postgraduate studies.
