Twenty-seven years ago, the Aloba family welcomed a baby boy on June 8, 1996, and they named him Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba. The young boy grew to love music and started singing at a very young age. That love for music formed the path of his life and destiny.
After graduating from high school, Ilerioluwa who is now popularly known as Mohbad or Imole, started producing cover songs which he uploaded on the internet. With consistency and determination, he soon became popular and was later signed into the Marlian Records in 2019 by popular artist, Naira Marley.
He quickly rose to prominence with his hit song KPK (KO po ke) and his unique fusion of pop, Afrobeat, and hip-hop. His fans loved him for his skill as a musician and songwriter.
His journey was smooth, or so we thought until 2022 when he exited the Marlian Records on grounds of unpaid royalties.
Having exited the label on a rough note, it severed the relationship he had with his former boss, Naira Marley.
Their open misunderstanding took a new dimension when Mohbad alleged in 2022, that his former boss should be held responsible if he died or anything had happened to him.
He said in a live Instagram video that: “Everybody in the whole world please help me, if I die woh na Marlian music and Naira Marley kill me.
“Abeg if I die like this, God, please help me. Look at all these people sha my God will never fuck me up, never,” he said.
Sadly, after a year, Mohbad mysteriously died on September 12, 2023. He was buried a day later however, his body was later exhumed for an autopsy after an investigation into the cause of his death was opened in Lagos.
His death had sparked several protests in many cities in Nigeria and around the globe with candle lighting held in his honour.
The late rapper, singer, and songwriter was best known for his hit songs “Ponmo,” “Peace,” “Beast and Peace,” “Sorry”, “Feel Good,” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” (You Will Always Be Remembered) with Rexxie, which was nominated three times for The Headies awards 2022.
It is clear that recovering from his sudden death would take a long while and would also be a hard one for his fan base and the many sympathisers around the world.
While we wait for the investigation to be concluded we pray his young soul finds rest and he finds justice even in death.
